Today, Sanoma Learning kicked off its two-month training programme in lean start-up methods amid a buzz of excited teachers, students and Sanoma Learning colleagues at Da Vinci College in Leiden, the Netherlands. As one of Europe?s leading learning companies, Sanoma Learning is bringing together an international group of 150 teachers, students, headmasters and Sanoma Learning employees across five countries under its Sanoma Learning Lab Programme. The programme aims to accelerate the development of innovative learning products through co-creation, and with its international scope and direct user involvement is the only one of its kind in the education industry. Just like in the Netherlands, the local companies in Belgium, Finland, Poland and Sweden have selected a single partner school to host the programme. Launches are set to take place in each partner school over the next coming weeks.
Accelerating innovation in learning
Over the next two months, the thirty selected participants in each country will work in groups of three, consisting of a teacher, a student and a Sanoma Learning employee. Armed with tools and expert advice, each group is tasked with selecting an idea to put forward for a product development boot camp set to take place in Amsterdam in December. Through a series of selection rounds, five ideas will be chosen to go forward to the boot camp.
The programme is based around the idea of ?co-creating for learning impact?, meaning creating learning products that will improve learning outcomes, boost student engagement and increase teacher efficiency. As such, the programme is an extension of Sanoma Learning?s mission to create learning impact, but in a way that brings the company closer to the needs of students and schools, as Sanoma Learning CEO John Martin explains:
?The Learning Lab offers teachers, students and other participants the truly unique opportunity of developing their innovative ideas into real, working prototypes. To support them, we?re helping participants develop new skills, and our partner schools are providing them with a testing ground for their ideas. As Sanoma Learning, we want to play a leading role in bringing innovative talent together in order to improve learning impact?.
From ideas to product prototypes
During the boot camp in December, participants will again be working in small, multidisciplinary teams with Sanoma experts. They?ll be turning the selected five ideas into working prototypes with the potential of being developed into learning products that reflect the real needs of teachers, students and schools.
